Diabetes is a complex and life-long condition that needs to be managed closely. Treatment involves both medication and lifestyle modification to prevent the development of serious and irreversible complications. It is my goal to help my patients understand the need for tight glucose control, regular HbA1c monitoring, nutritious diet, and effective exercise in managing the condition.
No two patients with diabetes experience the disease in the same way. Age, occupation, lifestyle, and other medical conditions must all be considered when formulating treatment strategies. My experience with teaching patients as well as medical students and medical residents has given me perspective on how people learn to cope with a life-long condition and how to help them understand what’s important. There is no need to feel helpless when facing diabetes. Together, we will formulate a strategy that works.
