By secreting hormones directly into the blood, endocrine glands are involved in many internal body processes including those controlling metabolism, growth, sexual development, and mood. While diabetes is the best known endocrine disease, there are many others that can affect a person’s quality of life.
In addition to diabetes, I diagnose and treat hormonal disorders of the thyroid, adrenal, pituitary, and other endocrine glands. This includes polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) and obesity, as well as growth/development problems and low hormone levels. I also diagnose and treat osteoporosis in both women and men. Many diseases of the endocrine glands demand careful lifelong management. It is crucial that patients understand their condition, so I work closely with my patients and their caregivers to help manage medications and prevent complications from developing.
